Rygor Group has welcomed its 2026 apprentice cohort, following unprecedented interest in its apprenticeship opportunities, with nearly 700 applications received across its technician, parts and customer service apprenticeship roles.
The award-winning commercial vehicle dealer group has appointed apprentices across a range of disciplines within the business, demonstrating its continued commitment to investing in future talent and developing the next generation of automotive professionals.
The high volume of applications reflects the growing appeal of apprenticeships as a career pathway, offering individuals the opportunity to earn while they learn, gain industry-recognised qualifications, and build long-term careers within a sector facing ongoing skills shortages.
James Edwards, head of technical at Rygor Group, who began his own career with the business as an apprentice, said: “To see nearly 700 applications for this year’s apprenticeship opportunities is fantastic and demonstrates just how valued apprenticeships are as a route into our industry. I started my own journey with Rygor as an apprentice, so I know first-hand the opportunities that can come from taking that first step. Our apprentices aren’t just learning a trade; they’re building careers, developing valuable skills and becoming part of a business that invests in their future.”
Throughout the recruitment process, candidates showed a strong interest not only in the apprenticeship opportunities themselves, but also in the long-term career development available at Rygor and through the Mercedes-Benz Academy network.
Emma Joyce, head of parts, said: “What stood out during the recruitment process was how focused candidates were on their future careers. They wanted to understand where an apprenticeship could take them, what development opportunities would be available, and how they could continue to grow within the business. That’s exactly the mindset we look for, and we’re delighted to welcome this year’s cohort.”
The automotive sector continues to face a significant skills shortage, making investment in apprenticeships more important than ever. By providing structured training, mentoring and clear career pathways, Rygor is helping to develop the skilled workforce the industry needs for the future.
Sean Joyce, aftersales director, said: “Attracting talented people into our industry is essential. Today’s apprentices are looking for job security, a strong company culture and the opportunity to develop skills that will stay with them throughout their careers. The fact that so many applicants were asking about future progression opportunities shows they are thinking long-term, and that’s exactly what we’re committed to supporting at Rygor.”
Rygor’s apprenticeship programmes combine practical workplace experience with formal training through the Mercedes-Benz Academy, enabling apprentices to gain valuable technical and professional skills while contributing to the business from day one.
Zak who joined Rygor this apprentice year as an HGV apprentice technician, said: “From the very first day, the moment I step into the workshop, or just the building in general, everybody takes the time to say good morning to each other with a big smile, even if they are super busy. It goes to show how friendly the Rygor family is. There have been a couple of instances so far where I have been quite stumped by a task and I would ask the person closest to me to show me how something works when they get a free moment and they have always been more than happy to help out. I have already gotten to know the people in my workshop quite well and I look forward to coming into work every morning. You can’t ask for anything more than that really.”
As the newest members of the Rygor team begin their apprenticeship journeys, the business remains committed to creating rewarding career opportunities and supporting the future of the automotive industry through continued investment in people and development.
